Tristan McIntosh is the 15-year-old country singer from Nashville who’s competing on the fifteenth and final season of American Idol. She first charmed the judges at her audition where she sang Mickey Guyton’s “Why Baby Why.” When the original American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson came on the show as a special guest judge, McIntosh sang Dan and Shay’s “Nothin’ Like You.” After the performance, the judges told McIntosh the song wasn’t a good choice.
Clarkson didn’t just critique McIntosh’s performance but also gave McIntosh advice on which song to sing next. “I know you love country,” Clarkson told McIntosh. “And I just think (with) your voice and your tone, if you sang a Trisha Yearwood song, I think you would really nail it.” When McIntosh competes for the Top 8, she won’t sing a Yearwood song. She has opted for the Vince Gill song “Go Rest High On That Mountain” instead. Tough choices — you’re supposed to be teachable and independent-minded. American Idol airs Thursdays at 8pm on FOX.
