Johnson & Johnson got handed a whopping $72 million punishment in a case that determined it had failed to provide enough information on the cancer risks its powder products may present. A Missouri jury awarded the family of the late Jacqueline Fox $10 million and tacked on $62 million of punitive damages.
The Missouri case concerning Fox’s death from ovarian cancer is called Hogans et al v. Johnson & Johnson et al, Circuit Court of the City of St. Louis, Missouri, No. 1422-CC09012. Reuters reports that there are currently “about 1,000 [similar] cases” which have been filed in Missouri and “another 200” in New Jersey.
