The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is experiencing “major disruptions” with some of its computer systems including its e-file system and the “where’s my refund” service. However, the agency is encouraging taxpayers to continue to send electronic returns to companies that serve as middlemen (HR Block, et al). Those companies will hold on to the tax returns until the systems are running again.
The IRS says it’s still assessing the scope of the outage. “At this time, the IRS does not anticipate major refund disruptions; we continue to expect that 9 out of 10 taxpayers will receive their refunds within 21 days.”
