FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) in Liverpool, UK — a gallery and cinema arts organization that supports new media art forms — will partner with a much more famous four letter acronym, CERN, home of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The Liverpool Echo reports that CERN approached FACT to partner on a program that will bring artists-in-residence to Geneva, Switzerland, to work in the shadow of the great science center there.

CERN is looking to the art world as part of its continued outreach and reputation management program. Since the reboot of the LHC with double the power it had before, CERN has found itself subjected to wild speculation about its purpose, mission and the safety of its operations. FACT will administer the Collide@CERN FACT Award in conjunction with CERN. Winners of the award, expected to draw entries from artists all over the globe, will each receive an artist-in-residency position at CERN. Application information forthcoming at FACT.
