Willard Scott is known as the weatherman on NBC’s Today. He’s held the job for 35 years. “He’s in the marrow and the DNA of this show,” says current Today host Savannah Guthrie. “He’s probably the most identified with the show of anybody.” Scott was known for his crazy antics on air which tended to involve the costume department. He once dressed up as Carmen Miranda. Another time he dressed up like Boy George.
Before the Today show, Scott played the original character of Ronald McDonald in the early 1960s. He created the character for McDonald’s and starred in a number of the fast food company’s TV advertisements. Scott, 81, wrote about his career including his days of playing the clowning symbol of one of the world’s most iconic brands in his book The Joy of Living.
