Sarah Oliver, an entrepreneur from Mill Valley, California, is pitching her line of hand-knit handbags, Sarah Oliver Handbags on Shark Tank. Oliver was taught how to knit at a young age by her mom and great aunt. “I was instantly hooked,” she says. One year for the holidays, she decided to knit every woman in the family a gift. “They loved it, and then I started to get requests.” She says “it was obvious I had a business on my hands.” So she hired senior citizens who love to knit – who she calls Purlettes +1 – to fill the orders.
