Chelsea Football Club surprised many Premier League watchers by dismissing Jose Mourinho, aka the “Special One.” Chelsea have struggled with players balking under Mourinho’s draconian leadership. But Mourinho was just seven months removed from winning the Premier League title, and if anyone’s job was considered secure, it was his. The manager with a tendency to draw attention to himself and overshadow his players finally wore out his welcome in a decision that was described as a “tough decision for the good of the club.”
Chelsea showed passive-aggressive style (how could they not?) in praising Mourinho’s accomplishments and character as they threw him out of the organization. “The club wishes to make clear Jose leaves us on good terms and will always remain a much-loved, respected and significant figure at Chelsea” said a statement at Chelsea FC. The dagger followed quickly after: “the club’s focus is now on ensuring our talented squad reaches its potential.”
