Holland Taylor, the best thing that ever happened to Charlie Sheen and probably the best thing that ever happened to Ann Richards, is in love. And she doesn’t mind if you know it. The elegant Taylor, who delivered a master class in style and humor as the narcissistic mother of Charlie and Alan on Two and A Half Men, first leapt into TV fame with Bosom Buddies 35 years ago. But it wasn’t until recently that she experienced the “most wonderful, extraordinary thing that could have ever possibly happen in my life.” That’s a description of her romantic relationship with a younger woman who remained nameless during Taylor’s interview with WNYC’s Anna Sale.
Busy prepping for an Austin run of her one-woman show about the late Texas governor Ann Richards, the 72-year-old Taylor described how loneliness — her lifelong companion — suddenly seemed less palatable after her mother died and her Broadway run of Ann went dark in 2013. Since then she’s found love and she’s enormously grateful. Though she wouldn’t name her partner, she did say she was younger and admitted the partnership is something she wants to nourish. The Girl-on-Girl culture site Autostraddle uses the “metadata” of Taylor’s social media footprint to subtly suggest it might be with actress Sarah Paulson, with whom she’s been getting into
“hijinks.”
