Since our son and I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 2009, our family has been raising money to help the children of Tanzania, Africa. So far, we have successfully funded a new classroom, a well that services 13,500 in the community and raised money to help young women start small businesses. The money we raise is directed to Plan Canada whose staff ensures that local Tanzanians are involved in the projects and manage their sustainability. About $130,000 has been raised to date.
Our latest initiative focuses on water and sanitation. This issue is very important in Tanzania as more than 2.2 million children die every year – that’s four every minute – as a result of diarrhea caused by poor sanitation and hygiene. All donations will be matched by the Global Sanitation Fund an incredible 8:1 so $1 donated becomes $9! Donations can be made securely at Keep On Climbing.
