On the Code Black episode “The Son Rises,” the lead actor of the musical The Lion King shows up at Angels Memorial Hospital with what he thinks is a throat infection. Meanwhile, down the hall is a teenage boy who faces the brutal decision of taking his father off life support. When the cast of The Lion King surround the boy and his father’s bedside and sing, there won’t be a dry eye in America.
The Lion King actor is the real life Broadway actor Alton Fitzgerald White, who played Mufasa, Simba’s father, more than 4,000 times. White said of his Code Black experience: “To be a part of the two worlds colliding? Incredible.” He added, “This is such a beautiful cap to my ‘Lion King’ experience.” Code Black airs Wednesdays at 10pm on CBS.
