Ben Carson either did or did not get offered a full scholarship to West Point as a young man. If Carson did get admitted, as he has seemed to claim, he surely would have been on a full ride. Every cadet at West Point receives their four-year education on the taxpayer’s tab. Politico has published accusations that Carson’s tale of winning admission to West Point is a fabrication, reporting that West Point has no record of Carson’s admission or application. Carson said — or seemed to say — recently that his account is true. It’s difficult to find the ambiguity in Carson’s claim, on Facebook, that he was “offered a slot at West Point.”
Carson’s fellow GOP contender Donald Trump tweeted gleefully about the story. “WOW, one of many lies by Ben Carson! Big story,” Trump wrote. Trump did not elaborate on the others.
