Fox News debate moderator Megyn Kelly got Donald Trump so upset in the first GOP debate that Trump thought aloud she might be struggling with her cycle. By the time the most recent debate rolled around, it wasn’t just Trump complaining about the probing nature of the moderators’ inquiries — Ted Cruz and other Republican candidates claimed they too were being pilloried by a liberal media. (Because everybody knows CNBC, the business channel that ran the debate, is left-leaning?)
The GOP candidates subsequently requested new debate rules for moderators in the forthcoming debates. Megyn Kelly and Barack Obama, not natural allies, both laughed at the sensitivity of the candidates. After wondering if the moderators would be required to give the candidates foot massages too, Kelly considered the Republicans’ request to allow approval of “any on-air graphics” the network shows. “Can you imagine?” asked Kelly. Kelly’s dumbfounded reaction was in line with Obama’s humorous take on the GOP complaints. If the GOP candidates can’t handle “those guys” [CNBC], the president said, “I don’t think the Chinese and the Russians are going to be too worried.”
