The reality show Black Ink Crew started in Harlem. Now its spin-off Black Ink Crew: Chicago is premiering on VH1 on October 26. The protagonist of the show is Ryan Henry, owner of the tattoo shop 9Mag. Ryan opened the shop in honor of the memory of his late sister Nova and 10-month-old niece Ava who were murdered by Nova’s ex-boyfriend Fredrick Goings in 2009. According to VH1, “he’ll [Ryan] do whatever he can to keep his family together.”

Ryan says he has agreed to do the show “because of the platform that it gives to me to inspire and have other people aspire.” Fun fact about Ryan: He is part Japanese and “searches for a deeper connection to his heritage through traditional Japanese tattooing.” Black Ink Crew: Chicago airs Mondays at 9pm on VH1.
