The University of Georgia has seen many a marvelous running back. Frank Sinkwich, Knowshon Moreno, Lars Tate, Rodney Hampton, Garrison Hearst and the indisputably great Herschel Walker ran the ball for the Bulldogs. Now comes Todd Gurley, the St. Louis Rams rookie who is just owning this season in Fantasy Football. The power back gave his owners 27 points this weekend, marking three straight weeks of 15 or better.
Gurley’s career is obviously too short so far to compare to the careers of the great backs above. But here’s an interesting figure: Herschel Walker averaged 9.59 fantasy points per game in which he appeared over his 12-year career. Gurley, the No. 10 pick in the 2015 NFL draft, is averaging 19 fantasy points per game in the last three games. In his strongest fantasy season (1988) Walker averaged just over 15 fantasy points per game at Dallas.
