Las Vegas cocktail waitress Shauna Tiaffay was 46 years old when she was brutally beaten to death in her living room in September 2012. She and her husband, George Tiaffay, a West Point graduate and Las Vegas firefighter, were going through a divorce. Upset with the proceedings, George hired a homeless man, Noel Stevens, to kill Shauna. He promised Stevens $5,000.

On the morning of Shauna’s death, in an effort to appear innocent, George Tiaffay brought their 8-year-old daughter Maddie to Shauna’s apartment where Maddie’s mother lay in blood. Prosecutors said George Tiaffay knew what he would find. Before being arrested, Tiaffay drove his pickup truck into a concretewall at 80 miles-per-hour. He survived the crash. He faced the same charges that Stevens pleaded guilty to — murder, burglary, robbery, and conspiracy charges. Tiaffay was sentenced to life in prison without parole in September 2015. 48 Hours will air its investigative report of Shauna Tiaffay’s murder on October 17 at 10pm on CBS.
