Oh, what a day! What a lovely day! Having driven his high-octane, nitro-boosted war rig of a summer blockbuster across the wasteland of big-budget movies, battling cartoonish dinosaurs, smart-aleck superheroes, and geriatric robots, to deliver a clever, thrill-a-minute, and highly-satisfying action film that will ride eternal, shiny and chrome through the gates of Valhalla (or the gates of Warner Bros. anyway), Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller is all set, much like Furiosa and Max, to turn around and go back. Twice. The director has two sequels all ready to go, and could begin shooting one of them next week if he wanted, but he says he wants to make a smaller film first.
Speaking to BBC’s Top Gear (or as it’s known around here, Crazy Clarkson: Furious Turd), Miller said “I want to do a small film without special effects before I do any of that, just to do it quickly. We shot Fury Road for eight months … that’s a lot. Every day in the heat and the dust, doing these stunts, it’s very wearing.” Hopefully it won’t take Miller another fifteen years to make his next post-apocalyptic adventure. We will just have to be patient. Do not, my friends, grow addicted to Mad Max news. It will take hold of you and you will resent its absence.
