On December 30, 2013, Carrie Olson went missing from Davenport, Iowa, where she lived with her boyfriend Justin Mueller. The 29-year-old Olson was last seen via a surveillance camera at a 7-Eleven in Rock Island, Illinois, where her ex-boyfriend Timothy McVay lived. In April, a man in Dakota County, Minnesota reported finding an adult female body in a wooded area. The medical examiner’s office confirmed it was Olson. According to IowaColdCases.org, “it appeared the victim had been there less than 36 hours.”

In July 2014, McVay was arrested. Prosecutors claim McVay killed Olson in his Illinois home, put her in the trunk of her car and drove out to Minnesota where he dumped her body in the woods. McVay was convicted and given a 45-year sentence. At his sentencing hearing, McVay denied killing Olson. In October 2015, McVay’s attorneys have filed a motion calling the sentence excessive. Although prosecutors suggest that Olson was suffocated, “an exact cause of death never has been determined.” Dateline NBC will airs its investigative report on the disappearance and death of Carrie Olson on October 23 at 9pm.
