NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden just pointed out a blog post by Elle Armageddon that features a list of best practices for trying to keep your social media life from becoming a nightmare. In Armageddon’s post, entitled Social Media Self-Defense, there is one tip she designates as a “pro tip.” She writes: “Pro-tip: you can use a service like 10minutemail.net to generate a temporary email for creating a new Gmail account.”
10minutemail.net describes itself as “a free, disposable e-mail service. Your temporary e-mail address will expire after 10 minutes, after which you cannot access it.” You can use it to create identities on social media from places like Twitter to webmail accounts. It hangs around long enough to get that confirmation email you need. As 10minutemail.net says: “you never know where your e-mail will be published. At this time, a 10 minute mail is the best solution to solve your problems.”
