In the Season 5 premiere of Scandal, Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) and President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) are reunited, and it looks like it feels so good. Of course, First Lady Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) does not approve of the sexy reunion. Nor does she enjoy being served divorce papers from Fitz. Conniving, crazy revenge will surely ensue. Will Mellie finally, literally, flip her wig? It won’t be the first time a Shonda Rhimes character did it. Who can forget the scene when Emmy winner Viola Davis took off her piece on How to Get Away With Murder? (See video below.)

Bellamy Young, the actress who portrays Mellie, is often asked about her hair on the show. She explains that for the first season, that was her real hair. And then in the season 2, they started to add clip-in pieces. It was in Season 3 where she started to wear a wig full-time for the show. “And it’s just heaven,” said Young, the 1987 Junior Miss North Carolina. “I mean that wig is amazing. We didn’t just get a wig. We got a wig and then she sewed two full heads of extension hair into it.” Scandal airs Thursdays at 9pm on ABC.
