Mad Max: Fury Road has pretty much stopped marauding all over theaters, and is just revving its engines to get ready to storm onto TV screens with a Blu-Ray release. As is often the case with blu-ray, the film will include all sorts of behind the scenes featurettes. But fans of the post-apocalyptic Wacky Races will perhaps be disappointed to discover that the blu-ray won’t include a shiny and monochrome version of the movie. Director George Miller said earlier on this year that he insisted that Warner Bros. release a black-and-white print of the movie, which he felt was in fact the best version of the film. Now it seems that won’t happen.
There is no mention of the monochrome print in the announcement of the blu-ray’s release, nor is there any mention of a score-only edition, which would be silent save for Junkie XL’s bombastic score. Perhaps, though, this is just a marketing ploy, and the special editions will be hidden in the blu-ray as Easter Eggs. The blu-ray is released on September 1, which will surely be a lovely day for the film’s rabid fans.
