Sandra Bland was the Illinois woman pulled over by Texas police earlier this month and arrested. She drew attention from police for failing to use a turn signal before changing lanes. Bland’s violent arrest was captured from a distance on video (below). She was taken to jail, where she died three days later. The Waller County Sheriff’s office said Sandra Bland committed suicide (hanging, plastic garbage bag).
On July 20, the Waller County DA Elton Mathis announced that concerning Sandra’s Bland’s death it was “much too early to make any kind of determination that this was a suicide or a murder because the investigations are not complete.” The investigation, conducted by the Texas Rangers, is ongoing. Bland was an advocate for the Black Lives Matter movement. She had just landed what friends and family called her “dream job” at her alma mater, Prairie View A&M University.
