The sousaphonist (yes, though Seuss-a-phonist would be so much better here!) Matt Buck taunted KKK marchers by playing his horn to scorn. As the marchers bumbled down the street with their Confederate flags flying, Buck played Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries” — a classical composition most Americans know only from Looney Tunes. It lent the proceedings an air of absurdity, exactly as Buck intended.
“I didn’t really know how to show my opposition, so that was my way of doing it,” Buck says told the Charleston City Paper.
