Alexander Hamilton had a marvelous career, so rich that Hamiton’s life still brings the drama. Recently Hamilton (the youngest of the founding fathers and the first US Treasury Secretary) has been in the news for getting demoted from the $10 bill. But Hamilton’s been shot down before– literally: his pal Aaron Burr shot and killed Hamilton in a duel. And he keeps rising.
Hamilton’s life and death are the subject of a riveting new musical — Hamilton — by writer, actor and all-around theater genius Lin-Manuel Miranda, who stars as Hamilton. The play grew out of Miranda’s hip hop recording, Hamilton Mixtape, part of which he performed at the White House in 2009. Hamilton opened off-Broadway earlier this year and has moved to the Great White Way at the Richard Rogers Theatre for an open-ended run. President Obama saw it there recently with his two daughters. Bill and Hillary Clinton, as well as former vice-president Dick Cheney — though not together! — have also attended performances of Hamilton.
Outstanding performance @JMunozActor in today’s performance of Hamilton. And here’s President Obama applauding you. pic.twitter.com/N3grajn2O9
