After the brutal murder of five US service members by a lone gunmen (and US citizen) named Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez in Chattanooga on July 16, a Florida gun store owner announced he will no longer sell firearms to Muslims. “I have a moral and legal responsibility to ensure the safety of all patriots in my community, and so effective immediately, I’m declaring Florida Gun Supply as a Muslim-free zone,” Andy Hallinan, proprietor of Florida Gun Supply in Inverness, Florida, said in a Facebook video.
Legally, Hallinan’s case has drawn the attention of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a large Muslim civil-rights advocacy organization which will ask the Department of Justice to investiage Hallinan. In determining by personal preference which customers he will sell to, Hallinan wades into a similar discrinimatory pool as the Indiana bake shop that refused to make cakes for a gay wedding. Hallinan’s 5-minute video has a professional sheen and looks like the work of a political campaign team. But which professional political team is not yet known. Hallinan makes his case wearing a hat, standing in front of the Confederate flag.
