If you think the views that Google Street provides on land are breathtaking, wait until you see the views underwater. Google has been working with the Catlin Seaview Survey, the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Chagos Conservation Trust, to document our oceans. The idea is “to encourage us humans to learn more about the ocean.” Google says exploring the ocean is a critical step in preserving it.
Google’s I/O developers recently announced that soon Street View will be available for Google Cardboard virtual reality headsets in all locations. So at some point, you’ll be able to use your smartphone and Cardboard to explore the depths of the oceans without getting wet!
