Nelitza Gutierrez was a housekeeper for the Savopoulos, the family (Phillip, Amy and 10-year-old son Philip) that was killed inside their fire-damaged home in Washington DC in May. Another housekeeper, Veralicia “Vera” Figueroa, was in the home that day, she was killed also. Gutierrez, who had worked with the Savopoulos for 20 years, received a message not to come to the house that day. Gutierrez thought that was strange.
During an interview with ABC 20/20, Gutierrez said she called Vera after not being able to get in touch with the family. But she got no answer. Gutierrez has set up a GoFundMe page on behalf of Figueroa. So far she has raised $19,000 of the $25,000 needed to pay for Vera’s funeral and to bring her body back to her native El Salvador. Gutierrez’s interview will air on ABC’s 20/20 on June 12 at 10pm.
