CBS news reporter Lara Logan interviewed US General John Campbell for 60 Minutes. While US combat operations have officially ended in Afghanistan, the four-star general is there “to navigate the end of the longest war in US history.” It’s up to Campbell to make sure that Afghanistan doesn’t go the way of Iraq, “where territory that was fought and won — at great cost to Americans – was lost because the Iraqi military wasn’t strong enough to hold the enemy back.” Campbell assumed his post on August 26, 2014. Prior to Afghanistan, Campbell served as the 34th Vice Chief of Staff of the United States Army.
Logan’s interview with General Campbell and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani will air during a special 60 Minutes Memorial Day broadcast on Sunday May 24 at 7pm (CBS).
