Taylor Swift communicates with her fans–the self-styled Swifties–like no other performer ever has. And she took to the Internet today with “an update I wish I wasn’t giving you”–as the singer wrote on Tumblr. That update is that her mother has been diagnosed with cancer. Swift even admitted that this rare time, she’d like to keep the details private, but that her mother actually wanted the Swifties to know. Strangely Taylor’s mom only got screened because of the singer’s prodding–she had no symptoms and “felt perfectly fine.”
The post has so far generated nearly 70,000 notes on Tumblr. And on Twitter, too, the post was retweeted 28,000 times in just hours with a hashtag #prayformamaswift emerging. John Andres Villegas tweet was typical of the compassion the news generated: “We love you so much Tay, be strong is all you need.” Exams-eva wrote: “this happened to me recently, things get better babe, I promise.” That’s a heckuva promise. We wish Mama Swift all the best.
