If you don’t like hipsters and think they’re basically overgrown children who really need to stop with all this pretentious artsy stuff, grow up and get proper jobs, then you won’t like this story at all. If, however, you find yourself sitting at your desk – at your proper bloody job – worrying about the mortgage, your kids’ orthodontist bills, and your leaky roof, and thinking that being a grown-up is just too much sometimes, then you’re going to love this story. Because now you can go back to kindergarten. Preschool Mastermind is a place where adults can “re-learn the basics and experience the magic of life as it was originally intended.” The magic of life apparently involves glitter glue. And crayons. And make believe. And nap time.
“For between $333 and $999 participants can expect to spend time in class playing games, doing arts and crafts, participating in show-and-tell sessions, going on field trips and completing playsheets, among other activities,” reports CBC News. The school’s founder, Michelle Joni Lapidos, says she is looking for “bright-minded” adults who want more play in their life. “One person’s here because they want to learn not to be so serious,” she said. “Another’s here to learn to be more confident.” There is a limit of 10 students – or “grownup boys and girls” – per class. Even the application process sounds like fun. “Please note, [applications] must be PRINTED and filled out BY HAND. Think markers, crayons, paint… perhaps this means a trip to the art store — ohh fun! Please read carefully (because this time around, you can read). Most importantly, HAVE FUN with it!” Just in case you think this sort of thing can only happen in Brooklyn, then you obviously haven’t heard of London’s Cereal Killer Cafe, which offers a nostalgic trip back to a time when all you cared about was finding the toy in the Cocoa Puffs and losing yourself in Saturday morning cartoons.
