Coachella, Lollapalooza Crush Scorcese Dreams, Ban Selfie Sticks

Both Coachella and Lollapalooza are banning selfie sticks for the 2015 festivals. The popular and much maligned selfie sticks are listed along with weapons, illegal substances, bicycles, pets, professional recording equipment, skateboards and more as prohibited. Hey, good luck with those illegal substances! But most trained security guys can spot a selfie stick, especially once it goes into use. So the festivals have chosen to crush the dreams of every mini Martin Scorcese out there, just to protect the safety and sanity of people who want to see the show. Bravo.

Brooklyn Vegan points out that other big festivals like Bonaroo and Governor’s Ball don’t yet have selfie sticks on the prohibited items list. “Though really,” BV says, “you should really not bring then here either.” Not sure if that recommendation is just a style thing–hoping selfie sticks will ultimately go the way of myspace–or if they’re just giving you a head’s up that your stick may get confiscated–list or no list.
