This just in: Lester Holt can draw viewers. Apparently, households across America have registered their approval of Holt’s steady hand (or anchormanship?) during a tough period in NBC’s history, according to USA Today. By the numbers, NBC’s Nightly News achieved a 416,000 viewer lead against ABC’s World News with David Muir. That translates to 10.1 million viewers for NBC, 9.7 million for ABC, and 8.5 million for CBS’s Evening News with Scott Pelley. Still, among premium viewers ABC (ages 25 to 54) was slightly ahead: 2.57 million viewers against NBC’s 2.55 million viewers.
If Lester Holt keeps this up, he’s well on his way toward becoming the first black news anchor of a major evening news program. Bravo! And finally: this is Black History Month and #blackhistorymatters. Good-bye, and good night.
