Apple Pay launched five months ago with CEO Tim Cook announcing partnerships with about 15 retailers. Now five months later Apple Pay is working at 47 retailers and growing fast. Among the addition are giants like Walgreens and BJs. Supermarket chains Albertsons and Acme also plan to begin accepting Apple Pay soon, along with Walt Disney World. (Incredible! It’s about to become even easier to spend money at Disney World!)
Apple Pay also just got huge lift from the US government. The White House announced that “Apple, Visa, MasterCard, Comerica Bank, and U.S. Bank are committed to working together to make Apple Pay, a tokenized, encrypted service, available for users of federal payment cards, including DirectExpress and GSA SmartPay cards.” Apple Pay already makes up more than $2 out of $3 spent on purchases using contactless payment, according to CEO Tim Cook.
