Brad Knudsen is the father of five children in the small town of Prior Lake, Minnesota. His youngest is 14-year-old Dee Dee, who is African-American. Knudsen, who is white, adopted Dee Dee 11 years ago. This month, Dee Dee has been sent three nasty videos via Snapchat from a pair of teenage twins. The twins call her a slut and use the n-word repeatedly.
Knudsen responded by making a video of his own to address the racism and bullying that his daughter has been subjected to. He also filed a complaint with the police and called the father of the twins who left a voice mail message for Knudsen, whom he called a “n-word lover.” After the voicemail air on local TV, the twins’ father was fired from his job. “That’s not what I wanted,” said Knudsen. Knudsen and his wife are planning to hold a series of town hall meetings to address racism in the area.
