Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s new novel is called Mycroft Holmes, the protagonist being the older brother of a sleuth you may have heard of–Sherlock Holmes. Abdul-Jabbar is a renaissance man for our age. The greatest scorer in the history of professional basketball, a jazz aficionado and Airplane pilot, Abdul-Jabbar is also a writer. In fact the 7’2″ Abdul-Jabbar always deserves mention in the category of best-named autobiographies. His was called Giant Steps.
Now Kareem, who has authored numerous children’s books, is coming out with his first adult fiction. Mycroft Holmes is set in Trinidad, but don’t expect V.S. Naipaul. Mycroft Holmes is lighter fare, in the Arthur Conan Doyle tradition. Anna Waterhouse co-wrote the book. It’ll be out this fall.
