In Los Angeles authorities captured an 8-foot alligator that had lived with the Mattson family for “more than 37 years” according to CNN. Authorities seized the reptile at the Mattson home after receiving a tip. The best part of the story must be that officials had searched the home once before, late last year, after a previous tip–and they couldn’t find the 8-foot alligator!
It’s illegal to have a reptile in LA County without a permit, so the Mattson’s could face charges. It’s also illegal to feed cats to your reptile, which the Mattsons say they didn’t do. But KTLA-5 in Los Angeles reports that two cat carcasses were found in the box with the alligator. The alligator, a female, was named Jaxson. There is no word about whether it responded to its name.
