James Crombie, a former hedge fund manager, has been accused of squatting in a $1 million home in Bethesda, Maryland. Crombie moved his wife, three kids and dog into the house after it was put on the market in May 2014. In August, the real owner showed up and confronted the family and then called police.
Crombie told the police “the home had been purchased for him by a consulting firm of which he was a principal member” but earlier in the year he was ordered to pay $35.6 million to his hedge fund partners after he “allegedly lured them with false promises and falsified documents.” ABC News reports that the Crombie family is now living in a smaller rental home in Kensington, a few miles away.
