Celebrities Freak Out With Prince On Stage

The hashtags from last night’s Golden Globes that are going to dominate your Twitter feed this morning are #Keatoncrying, #jlosgoldenglobes, #ReturnoftheCumberbomb and #omgPrince! Michael Keaton’s tearful moving acceptance speech for his win for Birdman is getting rave reviews on social media for its mixture of warmth, sincerity and sentimentality. Apart from the shocking news that his real name is Michael Douglas, Keaton’s speech was memorable for his dedication to his hard-working parents and to his “best friend,” his son Sean. Earlier in the evening, Benedict Cumberbatch brought the Cumberbomb back into the zeitgeist, when he photobombed Meryl Streep and Margaret Cho during a skit about North Korea. Jeremy Renner’s ears must be burning today; after leering at Jennifer Lopez’s chest and commenting “you’ve got the globes, too,” his joke was ruled a severe misfire, especially as the overwhelming theme of the evening was the importance of realistic roles for women in film and television.

But perhaps the biggest moment of the night–as far as the room was concerned–was when a pimptastic Prince ambled on stage to present Best Original Song. The crowd lost the run of itself at the sight of His Purpleness. But that’s just a rule: when Prince comes in to the room, everyone gets excited.
