The UK’s Cats Protection surveyed the nation’s cat-owners about their beloved feline companions’ names. There were over 18,000 responses to the poll. Poppy is the most popular name for a female cat, while Charlie is the number one moniker for a tom. Baroness Trumpington, Alfred Parsnip, and Dr Kenneth Noisewater were some of the more unusual names.
The most popular name for a black cat is Sooty; for a white cat it’s Casper. Naming cats after plants (Willow, Lily, Daisy) is quite common, and food-names are also trendy (Coco, Treacle, Pumpkin, and so on). But really, what cat would like to be called Marmite? There are eighteen of them in the UK.
