On Wednesday, December 3, the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center in New York City will be lit. This year’s tree comes from Danville, Pennsylvania (population 4, 722). It’s a 85-foot tall Norway spruce. It’s about 90 years old and is 46 feet in diameter. It weighs 13 tons! So this tree is strong enough to hold that crystal Swarovski star at the top – it weighs a mere 550 pounds.
The 82nd annual tree-lighting event in Manhattan will include performances by New Yorkers Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett and Cyndi Lauper, among others. NBC’s Matt Lauer, Al Roker, Savannah Guthrie and Natalie Morales will host the live broadcast at 8pm.
