Seth Rogen (The Interview) and Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) are adapting the violent comic book Preacher into a TV pilot for AMC. Preacher will be based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s 1990s comic series from DC Comics’ imprint Vertigo. The Preacher is Rev. Jesse Custer of Texas who loses his faith and tracks down God with his vampire ex-girlfriend Tulip O’Hare while being chased by The Saint of Killers, a gun-toting immortal being. Filming will begin in the summer of 2015.
The idea of producing a Preacher pilot has been around since 2008. Back then, HBO passed on a “by-the-book take on all 75 issues” — the network said it was “too dark and too violent and too controversial.” AMC president Charlie Collier told THR: “If you read Preacher, it has some obviously graphic violence and language and other things that we will not bring to the commercial television series. But I love that the fans will know that we’ll treat it with respect and that will elevate it and not dumb it down.”
