British pop singer Charli XCX (aka Charlotte Aitchison) was given the Hitmaker Honor at the Billboard Women in Music event Friday. Charli XCX is known for her rowdy vocals in and out of the studio. So when she accepted the Billboard honor on stage at New York’s Cipriani Wall Street, she didn’t totally shock her fans when she said, “It’s really cool to be at a music industry event where over half the people in the room have vaginas. P—y power!”
Charli XCX’s album Sucker is about to drop (December 15) so she performed live on Saturday Night Live, and went on Reddit for an AMA session which, well, “sucked” according to her fans. She dodged really good questions from “huge fans” including “hyogurt” who wrote: “Hey Charli! Huge fan here. Already pre-ordered Sucker. You’ve mentioned before that some of your biggest influences are the Spice Girls and Britney Spears, neither of whom are very highly regarded. Why do you think many critics tend to look down on pop artists? And how do you feel you’re working to change that stereotypical perception?” When Charli XCX didn’t respond, ToTheBongGuy wrote: “A real fan deserves a real answer.” Hyogurt replied, “I thought so too 🙁 major bummer.”
