A nanotechnology company based in Tel Aviv says it has developed a battery that can hold higher charge than current batteries–and power up more quickly. The product is still in prototype, but StorDot hopes to bring a slim cellphone battery to market by 2016 that will hold a full day’s charge that can be delivered in 30 seconds.
The technology could also have dramatic effects on the electric vehicle industry. StoreDot hopes to be able to power a car battery in three minutes, instead of overnight. The company takes its name (and a whole bunch of patents) from its “discovery of new generation, self-assembled nanodots of biological origin.” StorDot further describes the nanodots as “the first bio-organic nano crystal ever discovered.”
