Band Aid 30 is headed your way for the holiday season. Sir Bob Geldof aka Boomtown Rat founder and Midge Ure will record a new version of “Do They Know It’s Christmas” this Saturday. (It’ll be shown for the first time on X Factor the next day.) It’s been reported all the money raised from sales of the single will go toward the fight against Ebola in West Africa as a result of the UN reaching out for emergency help to combat the epidemic.
The chart-topping roster of the song’s first incarnation included Paul McCartney, Sting, David Bowie, Bono, George Michael, Boy George and Simon Le Bon among others. David Bowie will introduce the new video for the song. Bono is back onboard. Chris Martin of Coldplay and Sam Smith are some of today’s most popular names in music featured in this humanitarian project. Known for being a curmudgeon, Geldof has been quoted as saying: “It doesn’t mind if you don’t like this song, it doesn’t matter if you hate the artists. What you have to do is buy this thing.” Cynicism aside, it makes a great stocking stuffer for your socially-conscious friend or family member and will make you feel good making a difference in even a small way.
