What you see is what you get in Showtime’s new drama The Affair. A married waitress working at a diner in the Hamptons (Ruth Wilson) has an affair with a New York City school teacher (Dominic West) who’s spending the summer at his in-laws’ house on the island. TV veterans Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek, Fringe) and Maura Tierney (ER, NewsRadio) play their significant others. Victor Williams (Deacon from The King of Queens) plays the local detective. Created by Hagai Levi and Sarah Treem (HBO’s In Treatment starring Gabriel Byrne), The Affair will premiere Sunday, October 12 at 10pm.
One thing the show has going for it, other than its TV star power and beautiful backdrop (Montauk), is new music from Fiona Apple. Her previously unreleased song “Container” accompanies the title sequence for The Affair. The spooky song is told from the perspective of a woman who has died.
