A striking-looking first lady in a print dress was in Iowa to campaign for Iowa Senate candidate Bruce Braley. It was a dream come true for Braley, a political no-name looking to break through in one of the most politically conscious states in the nation. But Braley might find himself behind in the polls this week to a newcomer named Bailey. Because that’s what the first lady kept calling the man–Bailey. Obama called the Senate candidate by the name “Bailey” seven times while singing praises of “her friend.” If you haven’t heard, campaigning is a long, tiring slog.
“I’m very excited to be here to support your next Senator from Iowa, our friend Bruce Bailey,” Obama began her stump speech by saying. Finally an audience member shouted out the candidate’s real name, Braley, and Obama turned it around at the end. According to CNN, Michelle Obama had a good reason for her mistake. “I’m getting old,” she said. But she sure didn’t look it.
