Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer) will produce and star in a new comedy on HBO about a former nun, Sister Katherine. Now known as “Kate,” Sedgwick’s character was a nun with the Sisters of Mercy in California who becomes disillusioned with the church and leaves. With the help of The New Adventures of Old Christine creator Kari Lizer, the new Kate will undoubtedly find herself in some pretty hilarious social settings as she tries to live life as a regular woman.
When CBS canceled Old Christine in 2010, Lizer slammed the network and suggested the decision to cancel the show was sexist. “I hate to say it,” Lizer told TV Guide, “but I’m afraid they don’t care much for the female-of-a-certain-age point of view over there.” Don’t know about the age thing, but Lizer shouldn’t have any sexism issues at HBO, home of Girls.
