Pretty Woman actress Julia Roberts is lending her voice to an awareness campaign for Conservation International. “I’ve been here for eons,” Roberts says, channeling Mother Nature in a two-minute video. “I’ve fed species greater than you. And I’ve starved greater species than you.” Ten similar short videoes have been produced. Collectively they’re known as “Nature Is Speaking.”
Ad man Lee Clow, chairman of TBWAWorldwide in Los Angeles, directed the campaign featuring other A-list celebrities including Ed Norton, Kevin Spacey, and Penelope Cruz. They aren’t exactly ads, nor are they quite public service announcements. “No specific action is suggested, no instruction given.” However, Hewlett-Packard got behind it and will donate $1 to Conservation International for every unique use of the hashtag #NatureIsSpeaking, up to $1 million.
