Jessa Duggar of TLC’s reality TV show 19 Kids and Counting became engaged to Ben Seewald in August 2014. In reaction to the engagement, Ben’s father, Michael Seewald, started a blog. He’s added his wife’s name to the blog. (It’s called Michael & Guinn Seewald – Exalting Christ. Loving People.) But it’s Michael who does all the writing on behalf of the couple. He describes himself as a happy 39-year-old, “husband to a wonderful woman, father of seven children.”
After visiting the Holocaust Museum, Jessa Duggar wrote an essay comparing abortion to the Holocaust. Several journalists reacted by calling Jessa “tone-deaf, insensitive, and irresponsible.” Michael Seewald defended Jessa and congratulated her “for daring to speak out against one of the great evils of our time even if it means that Hitler’s doppelgangers are enraged.” Most of the comments on Seewald’s blog were complimentary to Jessa and Michael. But one woman named “Brownie,” a pro-life Christian who gave birth to a child after rape, wrote an eloquent reply. She ended it: “Abortion is not a holocaust, and Jessa Duggar owes an apology for her disrespect to the Holocaust victims.”
