US Women’s Soccer gold medal Olympian Hope Solo is awaiting resolution of domestic-violence charges against her. In light of the recent domestic violence cases in sports – particularly after the NFL “mismanaged” the Ray Rice case, many fans were surprised to learn that Solo will continue to play for the US women’s national team despite the controversy surrounding her. The charges Solo faces (brought on by her half-sister and teenage nephew) are disturbing, as was her upbringing, which she detailed in her 2012 memoir, Solo: A Memoir of Hope.
It’s only a matter of time until a television channel like Lifetime or WEtv develops a made-for-TV film about the dramatic life of Hope Solo, on and off the soccer field. Actress Jennifer Carpenter is a shoo-in for the role. A Solo doppelganger, Carpenter is also 5’9” with long brunette hair. While Carpenter is best known for playing Debra Morgan on Showtime’s Dexter (2006-2013) and for marrying her co-star Michael C. Hall, Carpenter is now looking for work. She was set to star in a new ABC drama called Sea of Fire but it wasn’t picked into series.
