Facebook is launching “Safety Check,” a tool to let your Friends know that you’re okay during and/or after a disaster. Logging onto Facebook might be the last thing on your mind during an earthquake but don’t worry, Facebook has you covered. They’ll send you an alert if you’re in an area affected by a disaster. (It’s based on the city you’ve listed in your profile.) All you have to do is click the “I’m safe” option which will generate a post and go in your news feed story.
Facebook said the feature was prompted by the 2011 Japanese earthquake, which affected an estimated 12.5 million people.
